Our church planting venture has witnessed the awesome provision of God in the area of finance.

Within the Free Church of Scotland new church plants are expected to be self-financing. However, the peculiar challenge for us stems from the fact that we are ministering in an area of deprivation and unemployment.

How has it been possible for us to finance ourselves to the same extent as larger churches in more affluent areas where most people are professionals with relatively high income? The answer? God’s faithfulness. He has provided for and sustained us for seven years and here are just a few of his wonderful workings on our behalf.

Through our fund raising and church offerings from 2013-2020 the minister’s salary and expenses have been met every month. The lord provided £30,000 to buy our church building outright, and a further £30,000 to refurbish it, as well as enough to cover all annual utilities and insurance. Our office hub rental has been £5,000 per year and our community magazine has cost £10,000 per year.

We run a free cafe each week meeting all the expenses, and have consistently invested significant amounts of finance into worthy causes here at local level, including house refurbishments and local charity fund raising.

At times we have provided materially for families in need, and repaid those who have lost money through exploitation.

We have helped support one of our members who served with operation Mobilisation. We have contributed to the sponsorship of others who wished to pursue certificates or diplomas or advance their education.

Despite the poverty all around, God has blessed us with enough finance and friends not only to survive, but to minister to others and share his goodness. ‘From everyone who has been given much, much will be required’. - Luke 12:48

In a day and age of church planting, which we should all surely welcome, one of the greatest needs in our nation is to reach our Glasgow housing schemes.

Within these housing schemes are precisely the people that Jesus reached out to in compassion, and in whom he found a receptive response.

We can think of no genuine spiritual reasons as to why we cannot reach out to more of these poorer areas of Glasgow.

There is no greater privilege than making ourselves of no reputation and sinking our lives into the cause of Christ within the most deprived areas, mirroring the ministry of our Lord Jesus.

Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit would inspire and empower a whole new generation of men and woman willing to grasp the wonderful opportunities to reach people for Jesus that previous generations have missed.
